In December 2009 the Isleton Historical Preservation Stakeholder Committee was formed to help develop historical goals for the City of Isleton.The committee developed policies and objectives to advance the historical interest of the city.

Ordinance Number 05-2011 An Ordinance of the City Council of the City of Isleton Adopting a Historical Preservation Ordinance and Accompanying Negative Delcation was approved on August 24th, 2011. Per Ordinance Number 05-2011 1.03 the City establed a historical review board consisting of:
  • The Review Board has responsibility for "procedures and policies" for historic preservation established by the City's Ordinance 05-2011. The process is generally triggered by an application to the City for a building permit. All Main St. buildings come under this Ordinance.
  • Building plans are reviewed by the City's Building Inspector. He would advise you regarding adding a second story and any other structural matters. He is responsible for issuing the building permit.
  • The property owner must obtain a binder with Ordinance 05-2011 and guidelines for Main Street building alterations, demolitions etc. It contains photographs of architectural elements that are unique to the Historic District. You can pick up the Review Board's binder at any time at City Hall and or download the package below (also on the forms page).   Please review, complete and return to City Hall with a $50 non-refundable fee.
  • The binder includes an application for a Certificate of Appropriateness (COA), which you would complete and submit to the Review Board for approval. 
  • Please don't hesitate to call if you wish to discuss your alteration/rebuilding plans. The Review Board would be happy to informally hear them and advise as to possible next steps.
  • We welcome any efforts by property owners to preserve Isleton's unique historical district.
